Microsoft Lync?

Hi! My employer has started using Microsoft Lync as part of our meeting/chat client, and I am finding it an accessibility NIGHTMARE! I can't route JAWS to PC to tell what I am missing, I can't use a keyboard to access my contact list... I can use conference calls if someone contacts me first, but I can't start one...

This is incredibly frustrating, and I can't seem to locate any JFW scripts or anything. Got some keyboard commands, which are only minorly helpful.

HELP!

Kate, we have this at work, too, although we don't use it.
When we first got it, I played around with it and thought it wasn't so bad. But appearances are deceiving and the few times I tried using it just to explore showed me it is indeed difficult, at least if just trying to figure it out without help.
Wish I had some tips for you.

I can take a look at it if you like.
I'd suggest you check the FS website for Scripts or email them to see if any help is available.

Wayne, if you can poke around, it would be appreciated. I am having a bear of a time with Office as a whole right now, but Lync is by FAR pissing me off more than anything else. I'll check the FS Website, though.

I searched the web for Microsoft chat scrips for jaws, found something on it on the jaws script list but the sight they pointed to was no longer working.

Depending on how much you will need to use link and your phone have you looked at link for either iOS or Android? I seem to remember link for iOS being accessible but have not played with the android version.

Well, I'm not the only one who is having problems with Lync. My team lead isn't liking Lync at all anyway, says its interface is clunky. Add to that my accessibility problems, we've only used Lync for conference calls twice in the past 2 weeks. We've gone back to Skype as a short-term solution; we're hoping it's long-term...

I will have to take a look at aps if it comes right down to it... If I get a company phone, I don't know if I'll get an Android or Iphone, but that's another board post.

Hi Musician:
I use Lync extensively at work. To begin with there were issues with Jaws, but I have absolutely no problem with it anymore. Which version of JAWS are you using with it? I'm using 13, and Lync 2010. You should be able to use the tab key to get around to pretty much anywhere you need to go. The only issue I have with it is it automatically defaults to the search box when you navigate away from the window and return. Usually around six tabs return you to the contact list however. Where I work has an extensive accessibility support network so it is possible someone has developed some scripting for it, but I have not heard anything.

I am using Lync 2013, as part of the O365 suite. Perhaps 2010 might be better?

I tab around, hit enter on "view contacts by group", etc., and it does not allow me to arrow or tab through to the list of contacts. It's very VERY frustrating. If you can find out some more info re 2010, I'd appreciate it!

Remy, next time you get a chance, when you're in links, press insert+q and that will tell you whether scripts have been written for it. If it says "default settings are loaded" that means no scripts.

Hope this helps.

I've used an iPhone for the last 4 years and have used Android on and off as a secondary device for about two years. I'd suggest that if it's a company phone you get an iPhone. although Android has made a lot of improvements I find that the iPhone is still more accessible. If you were paying for the phone out of your own pocket then the question would be weather based on your usage and financial situation the iPhone would be worth the extra $450 over a decent Android phone but if your company is paying for it I'd just go with the iPhone and be done with it.

Update: Well... bad news. Lync is still not working for me... and I cannot use Lync 2010. So I guess I am stuck for now *sighs*
